The purpose of Beyond Verbal Individual is to find new perspectives on material and to use materials outside distinct normative aspects and areas. By choosing consciously and by interpreting material, we create new ways to express who and what we are. This workshop is an experimental way of discussing, understanding, and bringing forward ways of broadening the narrow norms of being a boy or a girl, both and none, strong or weak... Beyond Verbal Individual shows the fluidity in the making of the self.

We play board games made for us by others. Some of the prefabricated games are often loaded with gender stereotypes, where children need to choose between specific figures with dominant characteristics. In Beyond Verbal, our aim is to give a choice to go beyond the stereotypes that emphasize another starting point for yourself and your interest. It provides an opportunity to create new games that talk about us.

One could say that public space should be representative, however: Do we all have equal access to act, to comment, and to affect public space? Do we have equal opportunities to tell stories, create new traditions, or perhaps maintain old ones? How can the public space be a negotiable location for diverse everyday life and practice? In these workshops we encourage adults, youth, and children to show and create actions of temporary and permanent characters in public spaces.
